House Standards
Horizon House is a structured, recovery-focused sober living environment. These standards are in place to protect the safety, integrity, and wellbeing of every member and the community as a whole. Acceptance and continued participation in the program requires agreement with the following: This is not an exhaustive list, and staff reserve the right to address any behavior or situation that may compromise safety or recovery.
1. Sobriety requirements
- Absolutely no alcohol, drugs, or paraphernalia on or off property.
- Members must remain sober at all times while in the program.
- Drug and alcohol testing may occur at any time, without notice.
- Any refusal, tampering, or positive test result may result in immediate discharge.
2. Conduct and behavior
- Zero tolerance for violence, threats, intimidation, or harassment.
- Disrespectful, disruptive, or aggressive behavior is not permitted.
- Romantic or sexual relationships between members are prohibited.
- Members must maintain appropriate boundaries with peers and staff.
3. Accountability and program participation
- Attendance at all required house meetings is mandatory.
- Members must follow all written and verbal instructions from staff.
- Participation in recovery activities (meetings, groups, or approved alternatives) is required.
- Dishonesty, withholding information, or manipulating staff or peers is not allowed.
4. Curfew, passes, and check-ins
- Curfew times must be followed without exception.
- Overnight passes require advance approval and may be denied at staff discretion.
- Members must check in as required; missed check-ins are treated as a safety concern.
- Leaving the property without permission during restricted hours is prohibited.
5. Cleanliness and chores
- Rooms must be kept clean, organized, and inspection-ready at all times.
- Weekly chores must be completed fully and on schedule.
- Common areas must be left clean immediately after use.
- Personal belongings may not be stored in shared spaces.
6. Visitors and property rules
- Visitors are allowed only during approved hours and must remain in common areas.
- No overnight guests under any circumstances.
- Romantic partners are not permitted inside the home.
- Members are responsible for the behavior of their visitors.
7. Personal responsibility
- Program fees must be paid on time.
- Members must maintain employment, school, or volunteer commitments unless otherwise approved.
- Medication must be taken as prescribed; misuse or sharing is strictly prohibited.
- Theft, property damage, or misuse of house resources will result in consequences.
8. Technology and electronics
- Excessive or disruptive late-night phone or device use is not permitted.
- No recording, photographing, or posting images of other members without consent.
- Content that promotes substance use, violence, or illegal activity is not allowed on the property or in common digital spaces associated with Horizon House.
9. Transportation and vehicles
- Only licensed, insured members may operate a vehicle.
- No storing non-operational vehicles on property.
- All parking rules must be followed; violations may result in loss of parking privileges.
10. Compliance and integrity
- Members must follow all house rules, agreements, and staff directions.
- Failure to comply with standards may result in warnings, increased structure, or discharge.
- Horizon House reserves the right to make decisions based on safety, integrity, and community wellbeing at any time.
By entering and remaining at Horizon House, members agree to uphold these standards and support a safe, recovery-focused environment for everyone.
